Description

CAE, Select Solver opens the Select Solver panel (image shown below) where you can choose the CAE software for which you are building a grid. Once a particular CAE solver is selected, Fidelity Pointwise will limit the allowable grid types to those the CAE solver can handle.

Tip: It is a good idea to select the solver at the beginning of a project to help ensure you are building a grid that is valid for the particular CAE software you will use for your analysis.

CAE, Select Solver panel
The Select Solver panel is where you choose the CAE software to which you will ultimately export your grid and boundary conditions.

Tip: If Fidelity Pointwise does not already support your flow solver, consider writing your own plugin to add your solver to the Select Solver panel list. See Special topics, Plugin sdk for more details.

Note that some solvers support 3D only, some both 2D and 3D, and some only 2D. Choosing your preferred CAE dimension is accomplished via the Set Dimension command (CAE, Set dimension). Some CAE solvers are listed in the table in a slightly different form, for instance, "Altair/AcuSolve". This naming format designates CAE solvers which are supported via a CAE plugin (Special Topics, Plugin SDK) rather than being a natively coded part of Fidelity Pointwise.

To choose a particular CAE solver, highlight it in the list and then click on OK. Boundary condition type names will share the terminology used by the CAE software you selected. If you are familiar with your selected CAE software, then you will also find the boundary condition names provided in Fidelity Pointwise familiar. Refer to File, Export, Cae for more specific information regarding support for individual CAE solvers.
