Customer ID

What is it?: Your Customer ID is a simple alphanumeric string that Pointwise uses to identify where you work and how you use Gridgen. By providing your Customer ID, you make it easy for us to find your site in our database and quickly and accurately determine how many licenses of each product you have and what their expiration dates are.

How Do I Find It?:

  • Look on your CD case. Your Customer ID is printed on a sticker that is affixed to the case.
  • If you are requesting a renewal license and still have an active license, run Gridgen and look at the startup messages printed to the shell window. Your Customer ID should appear there.

License Server

What is it?: The license server is the computer on which you will be running FLEXlm to serve Gridgen's licenses. Keep in mind that Gridgen's licenses are floating, so you can install Gridgen on many computers but you will only install the license manager on one.

Host ID

What is it?

The Host ID is a short alphanumeric string that identifies your license server to Gridgen's license manager. It is used when generating your license file.

How do I get it?

If your license server runs on the Microsoft Windows operating system:

  • Start Gridgen's license manager utility, LMTOOLS: Start, Programs, Pointwise, GridgenV15, LMTOOLS.
  • Click on the System Settings Tab
  • Your server's Host ID is the string in the field labeled Ethernet Address.

If your license server runs on a Unix/Linux operating system:

  • Go to the directory where Gridgen was installed. This is commonly referred to as your gridgen_home_path.
  • Type in the following to run the license control utility script:
    sh ./LICENSE_CONTROL.sh

  • Your server's Host ID is the string in the field labeled Gridgen license host ID

Why are there three fields for entering Host ID(s)?

You may set-up three redundant license servers so that your Gridgen licenses will still be available in case one computer is unavailable. If you will not be using redundant licenses, you will only enter one Host ID; leave the other two fields blank.

Host Name

What is it?

The Host Name is an alphanumeric string that you or your system administrator use to identify your computer by name. It is used when generating your license file.

How do I get it?

If your license server runs the Microsoft Windows operating system:

  • Start Gridgen's license manager utility, LMTOOLS: Start, Programs, Pointwise, GridgenV15, LMTOOLS.
  • Click on the System Settings Tab
  • Your server's Host Name is the string in the field labeled Computer/Hostname.

If your license server runs on a Unix/Linux operating system:

  • Go to the directory where Gridgen was installed. This is commonly referred to as your gridgen_home_path.
  • Type in the following to run the license control utility script:
    sh ./LICENSE_CONTROL.sh

  • Your server's Hostname is the string in the field labeled Hostname

Why are there three fields for entering Host Names(s)?

You may set-up three redundant license servers so that your Gridgen licenses will still be available in case one computer is unavailable. If you will not be using redundant licenses, you will only enter one Host Name; leave the other two fields blank.
