Pointwise Training Includes Overset, New Tools and Techniques
Training classes at the Pointwise User Group Meeting 2014 will include a mix of overset meshing, new features in Pointwise, instruction in quickly making layers of high-quality unstructured hexahedral cells using T-Rex (anisotropic tetrahedral extrusion) and a special short course, Advanced Structured Gridding. Training will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last throughout the day on 29 October. The user group meeting will be in Anaheim, California, and will include a celebration of Pointwise's 20th anniversary.
Overset Meshing Introduction
Overset Meshing Introduction outlines the concepts of overset meshing and the basic process of overset grid assembly using Pointwise. New, hands-on overset meshing tutorials will be provided.
Overset Assembly and Diagnostic Tools
After learning the basic concepts of overset meshing, there will be a detailed discussion of meshing tools during the Overset Assembly and Diagnostic Tools session, including the advanced visualization capability offered by Pointwise for viewing all of the characteristics of an assembled overset grid system, such as fringe points, orphans, etc.
Pointwise's Latest New Features
The afternoon session will begin with instruction in Pointwise's Latest New Features, including many new productivity enhancements. There will be demonstrations of these features and opportunities to try them in hands-on exercises.
Prism and Hexahedral T-Rex Meshing
Pointwise's T-Rex technique has been extended to quickly make layers of high-quality unstructured hexahedral cells with automatic adjacent layer collision detection, quality checking, and anisotropic-to-isotropic transitioning. The Prism and Hexahedral T-Rex Meshing class will explore how to create T-Rex boundary layer meshes containing both prisms and hexahedral cells and how to match T-Rex blocks with adjacent structured blocks to form a truly hybrid mesh.
Special Short Course: Advanced Structured Gridding
Hexahedral structured grids are widely considered optimal for precision CFD calculations, but realistic geometries often contain configurations not conducive to easily-visualized, straightforward multi-block approaches. The Advanced Structured Gridding short course will highlight advanced structured gridding techniques for quickly conceptualizing and building complex structured grids.
