Pointwise Version 17.1 R2 is now available for production use. In addition to many resolved issues, this release includes a refactored cell-count reducing technique inside the T-Rex hybrid mesher. T-Rex (anisotropic tetrahedral extrusion) generates layers of anisotropic tetrahedra, every three of which theoretically can be combined into a prism. The refactored technique has improved the reduction of a mesh's overall cell count by up to 20 percent by more robustly handling complex cell topologies. (The 20 percent reduction comes from a case in which 337 million cells are reduced to about 155 million.) In all cases, the refactored tet-to-prism cell combiner approaches the theoretical maximum of two-thirds reduction in the extruded region.
