Pointwise Teaching Partnership for CFD Mesh Generation

Learn More About a Pointwise Teaching Partnership

Learn more about how you and your students will benefit from joining us in a Pointwise Teaching Partnership.

" It is my opinion that students should be taught to use grid generators that are compatible with all major flow solvers. Gridgen and Pointwise offer this important compatibility. I would like to continue as a Pointwise Teaching Partner and use Gridgen in my Vehicle Aerodynamics and Computational Aeronautical Fluid Dynamics courses."
- Dr. William Engblom, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
" The undergraduate students picked up the Pointwise code very quickly and easily. The user interface is so intuitive and "familiar" that neophyte CFDers were quickly building high quality grids."
- Dr. Jed Marquart, Ohio Northern University

Use the same software championed by leading engineering companies around the world to prepare your undergraduate and graduate students for their professional careers. The Pointwise Teaching Partnership Program offers

CFD Mesh Generated by Students via the Pointwise Teaching Partnership
  • 10 free teaching licenses for the duration of a class
  • Supplementary materials on request
    • Free software documentation
    • Training notes from our professional classes
    • Sample grid files

Qualifications

Teaching licenses are available to recognized academic institutions that

  • Have a minimum of
    • two current annual Pointwise academic licenses or
    • two Pointwise perpetual licenses with current maintenance
  • Will be using the free licenses exclusively for a class or a lab and not for paid research.

Requirements - First Year

  • Teaching license request - A short summary (200 words or less) of why you need Pointwise and what applications you will be working on. This introductory summary only is required the first year.
  • Teaching license certification letter (see below)
  • Success story – A written report of at least 500 words about your Pointwise and/or Gridgen use and at least one image showing a Pointwise or Gridgen mesh or a flow solution around a Pointwise- or Gridgen-generated model. Format for images: Images must be a minimum of 400 pixels wide, preferably full screen size captures of 2,000 or more pixels. Images must be in PNG format. Grid and database files for meshes. We will also accept a video of students using Pointwise or Gridgen. These must be submitted before the end of the period of performance.

Requirements - Subsequent Years

  • Teaching license certification letter (see below)
  • Success story – A written report of at least 500 words about your Pointwise and/or Gridgen use and at least one image showing a Pointwise or Gridgen mesh or a flow solution around a Pointwise- or Gridgen-generated model. Format for images: Images must be a minimum of 400 pixels wide, preferably full screen size captures of 2,000 or more pixels. Images must be in PNG format. Grid and database files for meshes. We will also accept a video of students using Pointwise or Gridgen. These must be submitted before the end of the period of performance.

Certification Letter

Please submit a letter on the institution's letterhead that states the following:

"I would like to participate in the Pointwise Teaching Partnership for the duration of my class. The class is scheduled for insert period of performance.

I am a faculty member of a recognized academic institution. I certify these 10 licenses will only be used for an academic class or teaching laboratory.

Additionally, I will provide Pointwise with a written report of at least 500 words before insert period of performance end date about our Pointwise use and at least one image showing a Pointwise mesh or a flow solution around a Pointwise generated model. I understand that this written article or paper may be used for future newsletter articles and Pointwise marketing materials."

Sign the letter and fax it to 817-377-2799 or email to jan.batts@pointwise.com.

Consider Training

Your license includes training that can help you make the most of your grid generating time. Consider attending a three-day class that covers all aspects Pointwise use, from geometry modeling through volume grid generation. The training schedule is available at pointwise.com/training.

Licensing

Teaching partnership licenses don't have to be on the same license server as your two academic licenses, but all free licenses must be on a single server.
