Technical Support Engineer

Pointwise, Inc., the leading independent developer of CFD meshing software, is seeking two self-motivated and highly energetic individuals for our Technical Support Team.

Responsibilities

In this customer-facing position you will have a primary role in ensuring that our customers are as effective as possible in their use of our products. As a customer advocate, you will help ensure that our products evolve to meet our customer's needs. Specific responsibilities include the following.

  • Solve customer problems via phone and email.
  • Instruct our customers in the use of our products (including development of training materials).
  • Write product documentation.
  • Generate meshes and scripts for benchmarks and quality assurance testing.

Abilities/Education/Experience

Requirements for this position include:

  • an MS in engineering or a related field
  • experience with grid generation and/or computational fluid dynamics (experience with Pointwise and/or Gridgen is a plus)
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (due to the requirement to handle ITAR-controlled customer data)

Beneficial qualifications include:

Software Development Engineer

Pointwise, Inc., the leading independent developer of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) meshing software, has an immediate opening on our Development Team for a software engineer/programmer to work on our flagship product, Pointwise. This product encompasses technologies across the fields of mesh generation, CFD, computer science, interface design, applied mathematics, numerical geometry and algorithms, data exchange and many more.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining components of our next-generation CFD meshing software. We work collaboratively on architecture and design issues, but you will be given as much independence on the implementation as you can handle. Specific technologies you will work with include:

  • Object-oriented software design and implementation using C++
  • User interface design and implementation using Qt
  • 3D graphics design and implementation using OpenGL
  • Scripting language design and implementation using Tcl/Tk
  • Structured grid generation technology
  • Unstructured and hybrid mesh generation technology
  • CAD and CFD software interfaces

Abilities/Education/Experience

Requirements for this position include:

  • a B.S. in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • experience developing C++ applications
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (due to the requirement to handle ITAR-controlled customer data)

Engineering Interns

Pointwise, Inc., the leading independent developer of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) meshing software, seeks Engineering Interns for summer 2012 on both our Technical Support and Product Development teams.

Technical Support Team

In this position you will be responsible for assisting with grid generation benchmarking, research, and testing. You will generate CFD meshes using both the Pointwise and Gridgen software products and share the results our technical staff. Typical tasks may include:

  • generating structured, unstructured, and hybrid meshes.
  • using Windows, Linux, Mac, and Unix computers.
  • working with 3D geometry of various complexity.
  • writing scripts to automate meshing using our Tcl-based scripting language, Glyph.

Product Development Team

In this position you will be responsible for helping write, maintain, and enhance our software products based on customer inputs. Typical development tasks may include:

  • writing/debugging C++ for the Pointwise product.
  • writing/debugging Tcl-based scripts.
  • performing quality assurance testing.
  • automating quality assurance tests.
  • writing/debugging shell scripts.
