Description

The Transform Framework command allows a framework instance to be transformed via attachment points (APs), translation or rotation. It requires a single framework to be selected in the Frameworks panel prior to being available.

The Transform Framework panel allows a framework instance to be transformed via attachment points, translation or rotation. This example shows an existing transform via attachment points.

When using APs, simply select the AP in the Parent Framework either in the Display window or via the Parent Framework tree list in the panel shown above. Then select the corresponding AP for the Child Framework in the Display window or via the Child Framework tree list in the panel. As soon as the second AP is selected, the child framework is transformed to the new location in the parent framework. The forward directions of the two APs are aligned while the normals of the two APs are oriented in opposite directions.

Note: It is important to remember that framework transforms via AP are not dynamic. In other words, changes to an AP after a framework transform will not automatically update the transform.

If Animate Transformations in the Options frame is checked on, the child framework will transform to the new location with animation. Otherwise, the child is relocated instantly to the new location. Toggling Show Transform Axes will display an axes representation of the transform destination at the AP of the untransformed framework.

Frameworks can be transformed without the use of APs. The above image shows an example of the Transform Framework panel when APs are not available. Use of the Translate option works exactly as the Edit, Transform, Translate command, with the addition of the two Options described above, Animate Transformations and Show Transform Axes. Likewise, the Rotate option for transforming a framework is shown below. Details of performing a rotational transform can be found where the Edit, Transform, Rotate command is described.
