Description

The Overset command is used to set up attributes for and to run a remote overset assembler software such as PEGASUS 5 or Suggar++. No selection is required as the command automatically applies to all existing blocks. An additional capability allowing automatic grid adaption is available on the Adapt tab.

The table at the top of the Assemble tab shown below displays information about each block. Specifically the number of fringe, hole and orphan points is listed. Additionally, the status of each block is also shown, indicating whether or not each has been run through the selected assembler since last being changed.

The entities can be sorted by any of the columns in the table. Simply click on the header and the order of the entities will change accordingly. For example, if you wish to sort all blocks by the number of orphans included, you would click on the Orphan header at the top of the table. The direction of the arrow in the header indicates whether the sort is in ascending or descending order. Fidelity Pointwise also remembers how you prefer to have your entities sorted. Upon entering the Overset command, the entities will be sorted in the same manner as when you last exited the command.

 

Tip: There is an Export, Overset option available in the File menu for exporting an overset grid system. This is another route to running your assembler separately from Fidelity Pointwise or remotely. However, great care must be taken to match the appropriate overset assembler results with a given project file.

The Show frame provides display toggles for each of the primary point types: Fringe, Hole, and Orphan. These toggles are only available when a block or blocks are selected in the table and affect only the selection. Rendering of these cells is persistent outside of the Overset command so that if necessary, it will be easier to work on problematic areas of the grid while viewing the points of interest.

In the Adaption Sources frame checkboxes are available to choose whether to create sources automatically for Fringe, Hole, or Orphan points when the assembler is run. By default Fringe and Orphan are checked on.

By default Fidelity Pointwise will launch the chosen assembler software on the local platform. By toggling open the Run Remote Assembler frame shown above, remote execution of the assembler is automatically set. Additionally, this frame provides input fields for entering the Host Name of the remote system on which the assembler will be run. The Port which will be used to communicate with Fidelity Pointwise’s remote overset daemon, the ogaserver, should also be specified. This port number is determined when launching the ogaserver daemon. Finally, Test Connection can be used to see if Fidelity Pointwise can successfully communicate with the ogaserver. Additional less used features are found in the Advanced frame, shown above, by toggling it open. Show Assembly Log will write information from the assembler’s log file to the Messages window. Show Assembly Output will write information to the Messages window that would normally be written to standard output by the assembler. Release Assembly Data will clear all of the overset data currently in Fidelity Pointwise having been previously imported by a Run of the assembler. By default all assembler temporary files are cleared for any new Run. You can force the assembler to start with a previous run’s temporary files by checking on Retain Previous Assembler Files.

Run, shown in the top figure, initiates the assembler process by first exporting the block system with corresponding overset BCs to the format necessary for the selected assembler. By default the assembler is launched on the local platform, unless the Run Remote Assembler has been toggled open and necessary settings provided. After executing the assembler, temporary files, which contain the necessary overset point use data, are imported back into Fidelity Pointwise automatically. The Stop command can be used to halt the assembler execution process.
