Description

The Pointwise License Wizard allows you to control licensing for Fidelity Pointwise (V18.6). You may specify a license server, specify a license file, activate an evaluation key, or manage previously set licensing data. The wizard also displays your computer's unique hostid, often called the MAC address. The image below shows a preview of the initial page of the wizard.

File, License, Launch License Wizard

There are four options available on this window:

Option 1: Specify a License Server

The Specify a License Server option gives you the chance to tell Fidelity Pointwise the name of the current functional RLM license server. The steps are as follows:

  1. Start Fidelity Pointwise
  2. Click on the File menu.
  3. Select the License option near the bottom of the File menu.
  4. Select Launch License Wizard
  5. From the four available options, choose the Specify a License Server radio button.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. You should see an interface that looks like the following image:
Launch License Wizard, Specify License Server
  1. Type in the name of the computer that you would like Fidelity Pointwise to use as a license server. The default port for RLM is 5053. It is generally unwise to change that unless your system administrator has explicitly told you that the default port was modified.
  2. Click on the Next button.

Option 2: Specify a License File

The Specify a License File option gives you the chance to point Fidelity Pointwise directly to a license file without involving RLM or any secondary license server. This option is uncommon and extremely rare, requiring correspondence with Cadence Design Systems personnel to set up. It only applies to highly specialized, unusual situations. This option requires a special license file sent to you from Cadence Design Systems. The steps are as follows:

  1. Start Fidelity Pointwise
  2. Click on the File menu.
  3. Select the License option near the bottom of the File menu.
  4. Select Launch License Wizard
  5. From the four available options, choose the Specify a License File radio button.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. You should see an interface that looks like the image shown below:
Launch License Wizard, Specify License File
  1. Either type in the name of your special license file or browse to it by pushing the Browse button.
  2. Click on the Next button.

Option 3: Specify an Activation Key

This option is for individuals who are evaluating Fidelity Pointwise. It eliminates the need for installing RLM during the temporary evaluation period. Instead of being sent a license file from Cadence, you will receive an Activation Pro keycode - a numeric code that is sixteen digits long. When you enter the Activation Pro keycode and push the Next button, Fidelity Pointwise sends your hostid and hostname information to our RLM server, generates a license file, returns it to your computer, and saves it locally. Again, when launched from the Fidelity Pointwise interface, this feature is only used for evaluation purposes:

To process the Activation Pro code, follow these steps:

  1. Start Fidelity Pointwise
  2. Click on the File menu.
  3. Select the License option near the bottom of the File menu.
  4. Select Launch License Wizard
  5. From the four available options, choose the Activate a Key radio button.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. You should see an interface that looks like the image shown below:
Launch License Wizard, Activate Key
  1. Copy and paste the sixteen-digit code that you received via email. Do not change the URL from https://www.pointwise.com.
  2. Click on the Next button.

Option 4: Manage License Data

Any time you change license servers, the information is saved by Fidelity Pointwise - in theory this streamlines finding a backup server should your main server crash. The Manage License Data feature allows you to delete that history in case you want Fidelity Pointwise to ignore old legacy servers. Special note: the RLM Web Port is set to 5054 by default - that is how you view the RLM administration page in a web browser (see File, License, Open license admin to learn more).

To delete your server history, follow these steps:

  1. Start Fidelity Pointwise
  2. Click on the File menu.
  3. Select the License option near the bottom of the File menu.
  4. Select Launch License Wizard
  5. From the four available options, choose the Manage License Data radio button.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. You should see an interface that looks like the image shown below:
Launch License Wizard, Manage Data
  1. Click on the Reset Servers button if you want to remove your license server history information.
  2. Click on the Reset Files button if you want to remove your license file history information.
  3. Click on the Finish button.
