The Stanford PLY file type refers to the Polygon File Format (also known as the Stanford Triangle Format) and is supported for surfaces containing triangles, quads, and N-sided poly cells beyond four edges.
Note: When importing Stanford PLY files, you have the option to compress the resultant shell which significantly reduces the memory consumption while running Fidelity Pointwise and also reduces the size of saved project files. Alternatively, shells can be compressed manually after import using the Compress Shells command.
