The IGES format supported by Fidelity Pointwise for database export contains a subset of the entity types available in the full IGES standard. (Ref. 16). This subset of entity types can be found in the table below.
Entity Number | Description |
---|---|
100 | Circular Arc |
108 (form 0) | Plane |
116 | Point |
120 | Surface of Revolution |
122 | Tabulated Cylinder |
126 | Rotational B-Spline Curve |
128 | Rotational B-Spline Surface |
144 | Trimmed Surface |
186 | B-Rep Solid Model Object |
402 | Group |
408 | Singular Subfigure Instance |
514 | Shell |
Tip: The IGES format represents a great way to take geometry data that you have cleaned up in Fidelity Pointwise and import it into your CAD package for further modification.
When the IGES format is selected, the presented Export Database panel (shown below) contains two frames: Units and Entity Conversion. The Units frame provides a drop-down list for specifying the units in which the CAD data should be written out to the file being exported. Note that several selections are available for either Traditional or Metric units.
The second frame, Entity Conversion, contains the Enable Pointwise File Compatibility Mode option which allows information of those database entities not supported by the IGES format (e.g. database quilts) to be exported properly. This in turn ensures that those entities will be recovered correctly when the IGES file is later imported into a third-party software package.
