U.S. Navy - F-18 Fighter JetDr. Basil Hassan at Sandia National Laboratories created the grid shown below for the engine bay of the U.S. Navy's F-18 Fighter Jet. This 6-block 231,000 point grid was used as part of a CFD simulation of fire suppression and is based on a full-scale engine nacelle simulator at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake, California. Both the grid and the nacelle geometry were created using Gridgen. The study is described in the following paper: Lopez, A. R., Gritzo, L. A., and Hassan, B., "Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of the Air/Suppressant Flow in an Uncluttered F18 Engine Nacelle," Proceedings of the Halon Options Techical Working Conference, Albuquerque, NM, May 1997, pp. 281-297.
