Zooming in Pointwise

Zooming techniques in Pointwise can greatly increase your efficiency while creating grids. Apply these steps to learn how to use the many different zooming options available in Pointwise for your own geometry.

Middle Mouse Button

1. Middle-click the mouse anywhere in the display window.
2. Move the mouse towards you.

This will cause you to zoom in to the center of the display window no matter where you clicked.

3. Move the mouse away from you.

This will cause you to zoom out of the center of the display window no matter where you clicked.

Mouse Wheel

1. Place the mouse at the center of where you want to zoom in the Display window.
2. Roll the mouse wheel towards you.

This will cause you to zoom in to where the mouse is pointing.

3. Roll the mouse wheel away from you.

This will cause you to zoom out of where the mouse is pointing.

Shift + Middle Mouse Button

1. Place the mouse at the center of where you want to zoom in the display window.
2. Hold the Shift key.
3. Middle-click the mouse and hold.
4. Drag the zoom selection box down.

Notice the plus sign below the magnifying glass icon, which means we are zooming in.

5. Release the Shift key and middle mouse button.

The display window is filled with what was inside the zoom selection box.

6. Place the mouse at the center of where you want to zoom out in the display window.
7. Hold the Shift key.
8. Middle-click the mouse and hold.
9. Drag the zoom selection box up.

Notice the minus sign below the magnifying glass icon, which means we are zooming out.

10. Release the Shift key and middle mouse button.

The display window is filled with a bigger picture than what was inside the zoom selection box.

Zoom Menu

1. View, Zoom, Undo Zoom

The previous view before zoom was used is recalled.

2. View, Zoom, Zoom to Fit

Zoom is used to fill the display window with the geometry.

3. View, Zoom, Zoom to Selection

First select an entity, and then zoom to selection zooms to the selected entity.

All of these zoom options can be added to the View toolbar by customizing your toolbar.

1. View, Toolbars, Customize
2. Check View to expand the view options.
3. Check the zoom tool you most often use.
4. Close
